From battling with predicted grades to becoming the first in her family to graduate from university - meet Bauhaus Education’s very first student Hana Mohamud …
During COVID, I was given a teacher-predicted grade of 4 in English Language, which was a real setback. Retaking with Bauhaus gave me the opportunity to prove myself and I achieved a grade 9. Finding out about Bauhaus was life changing. I retook my English Language with them and achieved a grade 9 - the top mark. Going from a 4 to a 9 wasn't just about the grades, it was about proving to myself what I was actually capable of.
A different way of learning
What I love about Bauhaus is their teaching style. Tutu and her team always made sure I understood everything at the end of each lesson. We constantly did practice papers—real GCSE past papers, not just textbook exercises. The tutors use real-life examples to explain concepts, which made everything click. It wasn't about following a rigid curriculum from A to B. Instead, it was: "What don't you understand? Let's target that."
The tuition was completely driven by what I needed. If I didn't get a topic, I could bring my questions to Tutu, and she would explain and break it down until it made sense.
The A-Level challenge
Later, I did my A-level Chemistry at Bauhaus while also studying three other A-levels at school - Biology, Computer Science, and Psychology. Without that Chemistry A-level from Bauhaus, I would never have been accepted to the University of Kent
I attended tuition for a couple of hours a week, and Tutu gave me homework that focused on moving knowledge from short-term to long-term memory—exactly the cognitive science approach she's famous for.
A better exam experience
Taking exams at Bauhaus was so much better than at school. At school, exams often felt stressful and overwhelming. At Bauhaus, the JCQ-inspected exam conditions are the same standard, but the environment is calmer and less intimidating.
Breaking Barriers
This summer, I graduated from the University of Kent with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. I am the first person in my family to have gone to university and the confidence to follow that path comes from everything Bauhaus taught me.
I am now pursuing Biomedical Scientist trainee roles, and I have also received an offer to study Optometry in London for the following year.
A Family Transformation
What's amazing is that all my siblings have now been supported by Bauhaus too. My sister did her Maths, Science, and English GCSEs there and now has a scholarship in the USA. My brother is back at Bauhaus this year getting extra tuition for his GCSEs.
What Bauhaus did for us goes far beyond helping me, one student pass exams. They showed my whole family that we could succeed, that our dreams weren't too big, and that with the right support, anything is possible.
